Injection molding technology.
Injection molding technology is the technology of pushing and pressing molten raw materials into a pre-existing shaping system called a mold system, then cooling to crystallize the liquid raw materials and bringing the product out. Such a cyclic process is called an injection molding cycle. The shorter the cycle, the lower the product cost. Therefore, in the field of injection molding, people often calculate the cost based on the cycle of one injection molding.
What is a mold?
The mold, also known as the main mold, is the center of injection molding technology. The mold is machined and shaped based on the desired product shape. The injection molded product is shaped thanks to the structure and shape of the mold cavity (also known as the mold core, mold pick, etc.).
The mold consists of 2 main parts called the male mold and the female mold. In technical language and industrial mold manufacturing factories. People divide the mold into 2 parts; the fixed mold part and the movable mold part.
- The fixed part (mother mold) is the part that remains still during the entire injection molding process. This part is connected to the nozzle of the injection machine to inject plastic into the mold cavity. This part includes the core on the fixed part, the guide shaft, the plastic pouring nozzle, the fixed mold plate, etc.
- The moving part (male mold); This part will move when the mold is closed or opened during an injection molding cycle. This part has the function of opening the mold to take the product and runner out and then pressing the mold close so that the raw material is not leaked (creating three socks) by the pressure during the injection process.
In addition to the two main parts that make up the mold, some complex molds also have a slide platform, a motor system (thread mold), a hydraulic system, etc.
Molds and life:
Most everyday items are produced by injection molding technology. From simple things like shoe soles to helmets, children’s toys, mobile phone cases, candy boxes, etc. Producing items with molds saves time. It is possible to produce the same mass in a short time. Therefore, injection molding technology, in which molds and plastic injection molds are at the core, plays an important role in daily life. But most of us do not care about the existence of this field. The plastic injection mold industry currently needs a large number of design engineers, but universities have not met the demand. Most of the people working in this field are retrained from mechanical engineers.
In the past, mold design was difficult because there were few supporting industries. However, at present. The mold supporting industry is very developed, so mold design and manufacturing do not require as much time and effort as before. The two famous Japanese companies are FUTABA and MISUMI. These two famous companies specialize in providing components for the mold and mechanical industry according to their own standards. The designer only needs to design according to the standard and then order the available components for assembly. However, some non-standard components still need to be processed.
